A process of psychotherapy

Roughly we can see three stages of psychotherapy -

1) A stage of exploration :

Client and therapist try to create a therapeutic bond by being honest, open and communicative.
Therapist helps client to identify his/her basic issues or conflicts.
They try to get into the account of the significant events by going through a life story of a client.
Its like therapist sitting as a viewer (a reflector and a sounding board) and client in a projector room displaying his/her life story.
Therapist tries to empathize by observing client carefully and being attentive to auditory and visual signals telling the therapist the truth behind/accompanying his/her story.

They come to an end by forming aims to be achieved and guess about how much time will be required to complete the work.

2) A stage of disintegration of self-defeating theme:

During this stage, client works on his/her less visited areas in mind, tries to understand two faces he/she has. He/she tries to understand the conflict between "I WISH" and "I SHOULD".
Therapist helps client to understand the self-defeating theme underneath his/her perceived failures/disappointments.

This phase is very challenging and requires trust and courage from both therapist and client. Client learns to take responsibilities of his/her suffering, right-wrong choices and decisions, blaming games, excuses etc.

3) A stage of reintegration (rebuilding of personality):

During this phase client works on breaking the self-defeating pattern and trying to communicate his/her difficult emotions to his/her close and significant ones. He/she tries to break free from the game of being good and helpful under the garb of controlling others.

He/she tries to become more realistic and by that accepting some existential realities like imperfection, mortality, inherent limitations etc.
He/she tries to make life simple and manageable.
This helps the client to throw the baggage from the past and reorganizes his/her life and priorities. He/she can grow to become emotionally adult and responsible.

This is a healing stage, working on nervousness and building confidence.

4) Pre-termination

A phase which enables client to be on his/her own without help of a therapist.

5) Termination
When client feels confident enough to work on his own in future, both say goodbye to each other and end the contract.

6) Post-termination reviews, visits.

Clients may visit and give feedback to therapist about his/her progress-regress.
